Meet the Filmmakers
The Interviews
We just put our project on IndieGoGo to help raise funding for the film. I thought I would get the ball rolling by making the first donation of $25. See, I wouldn’t ask you to do anything I’m not willing to do myself. It was quick, easy, and put us that much closer to our goal. The way IndieGoGo works is that we set a goal for how much money we hope to raise and then set a deadline to meet it by. In our case, we set the goal at $5000 by Nov. 30.
Now it’s time to get started. If you’re like me, every dollar is accounted for before you even have it. But we ask that you help us make this documentary possible by digging in to any little extra cash you can spare. The smallest donation can go a long way. We need to cover a whole bundle of expenses such as film equipment, plane tickets (to get to the different cities to film), legal fees, copyrights, festival submissions, etc. It all adds up. We want to make this documentary the best it can be. And we need you help to do so.
We kicked off the first round of interviews in New York Sept. 8-9. Among the interviews were Maia Szalavitz, author of “Help at Any Cost: How the Troubled Teen Industry Cons Parents and Hurts Kids” and Phil Elberg, New Jersey lawyer who has won several cases against these programs. Check out an excerpt from our interview with Phil.
